Wii U To Go Out of Production

The last Wii U will be built this Friday as Nintendo is ending production of their eighth generation console, likely to focus their efforts on the new Nintendo Switch.

This comes as little of a surprise given the Wii U's mixed sales results and lukewarm reception overall. For reference, the Wii U has only sold 13.02 million units thus far while other Nintendo juggernauts have had greater success over their lifetimes. The Nintendo Gamecube sold 21 million units, while it's predecessor the Nintendo 64 sold 32 million units. Meanwhile, the Wii (Classic) sold 101 million units, a little more than 1.5 times all of the other consoles combined!
